What AI is actually changing

AI shows up directly in these openings: Artificial Intelligence. That is the part of the job changing fastest.

Employers still ask most for: Accounting, Finance, Communication, Attention to Detail, NetSuite, Enterprise Resource Planning — the parts of the work people are hired to own.

The longer answer for accountants

Accounting is a fair thing to worry about, because so much of it is exactly what software is good at: sorting transactions, checking totals, filling in forms the same way every month. Those tasks have been shrinking for years, and AI speeds that up again.

What does not shrink is the part where someone has to sign their name to the numbers. Judgment calls, tax rules that change, explaining to a client why the answer is what it is, and being responsible when it is wrong — none of that hands off to a tool. Across the roughly 3,300 fast-growing companies we track, accounting openings still ask first for that judgment and trust, with software skills expected alongside it.

So the honest read: the data-entry side of accounting keeps fading, while the advice-and-responsibility side holds up. If you keep the books for a living, the move is to spend less time typing numbers in and more time telling people what the numbers mean.
