The Single Fastest-Growing Job Skill Right Now Is "Claude"
Quick question. What's the fastest-growing skill in the job market right now?
Not a programming language. Not a degree. Not even "AI" in general.
It's one word: Claude.
Across the 2,306 companies we track, mentions of Claude — the AI assistant — grew faster than any other skill over the 90 days ending August 31, 2026. Up 17.1%. It's now named in the job postings of 713 different companies.
Sit with that for a second. A tool that barely existed on résumés a couple of years ago is now something hundreds of employers list by name — right next to "Excel" and "communication."
And it's not a quirk of one industry. The broader signal is even bigger: artificial intelligence now shows up in nearly one of every four job postings we scan — 1,552 companies, up 7.8% in three months.
Meanwhile, some of the old reliable technical skills are being named a little less often. React mentions are down 14.5%. JavaScript, down 9.9%. Still huge. Just not growing.
Here's what that shift is really saying. Employers are moving fast from "can you write the code" to "can you use the tools that write the code with you." Naming Claude in a job post is shorthand for a bigger ask: show up knowing how to work with AI, not around it.
The usual caveat applies — this is one 90-day window, measured by how often a skill is named in postings, not a forecast. Trends wobble, and a tool that's hot today can cool tomorrow.
But if you've been waiting for a sign that "learn to use AI tools" crossed over from hype to hiring requirement, this is it. It's not on the résumé of the future. It's on the job post of this week.
